From synthesizers to Auto-Tune, every generation has been told that the latest technology isn't "real" music — and every generation has been wrong. In this talk, electronic musician and producer Luís Clara Gomes traces the long history of computer-aided music-making, then turns to the question nobody in the creative industries can avoid: what does AI mean for artistic authorship? As generated music approaches indistinguishability from human-made, Luís argues that intention is still what defines art — and that the live, immersive, unrepeatable performance remains the one thing the algorithm cannot replace.
