Kelis Rogers, born in 1979, is an American singer, songwriter, and chef who emerged in 1999 with a unique style that blended R&B, rock, and scream-rap. The Harlem native started her musical career in a church choir and played multiple instruments in private school. She attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she studied theater and played saxophone. After graduating, she sang backing vocals for the hip hop group Gravediggaz.
